My Portfolio
Welcome! This is a running list of all of the projects I've directed since graduating high school.
2024 | Live-action, Animation, documentary home video
Filled with a longing for his past, a young man tries to persuade his father to take him to his great grandmother's funeral.

This is an 11-minute short film that I wrote, directed, and animated in Ronnie Kay's "Sight & Sound: Studio" class at NYU.
In addition to mixing languages, this film blends live-action footage, hand-drawn animation, and documentary home videos to tell its story. Both English and Mandarin translations are available.

This world and these characters are part of a greater story in a feature that I'm currently writing.

Starring: Qi, Miles Zhao, and Ariel Yaya Ku
2024 | Live-action
When a family argument breaks loose, the older brother must stabilize his home before he returns to college.

This is a 5-minute short film that I wrote and directed in my studio class. It features English, Mandarin, and Taiwanese dialogue.
Language was an important focus in this project because I wanted to faithfully represent a 1st generation immigrant household, emphasizing how each member of the family wields the mother tongue differently.

Starring: Qi, Jessica Wang, and Miles Zhao
2023-24 | Animation
This is a 4-minute 2D-animated short that I animated and produced in Christen Smith's "Introduction to Animation Techniques" class at NYU.

Through this project, I learned how to storyboard for animation, keep a strict production schedule, work effectively with my composer, and employ the techniques of frame-by-frame animation to create a narrative short.

"The Star-Catcher" had its world premiere at the Brooklyn Film Festival on June 8, 2024!

Music Composed and Orchestrated by Lina Breining
Performed by the Budapest Symphony Orchestra
2024 | Audio dramas
SPirited Away:
Into the Tunnel
This is a 9-minute audio drama adaptation of the Hayao Miyazaki film, Spirited Away. I directed this project in Sue Zizza's "Sound Image" class at NYU.

Through this project, I got familiar with the art of working with voice actors. I also learned how meaning is shaped from the notes given during recording sessions to the signal processing applied during editing.

The Space Between Us
This is a 2-minute original audio drama that I produced as a proof-of-concept for a short film that I plan to direct in 2025.

This project helped me realize the scale of my story as well as the insights about identity, home, and belonging that I want to convey in my screenplay.
Featuring Shengdi Sun and Sheron Wang
2023 | Animation + Live-Action
Never Gone
This is a 5-minute 3D-animated short that I made for my Creative Submission on my NYU Film & TV application.

This project introduced me to two things that I now consider integral pillars of my storytelling identity: the first was how to draw inspiration from my life when writing stories. The second was how to harmonize both the live-action and the animation mediums so that they work together in the same film.
2025 | In development
The Space Between
This will be a short film about identity, home, and belonging. Most scenes will be filmed live-action. Certain sequences that take place in memories will be animated in 2D.

This story was inspired by my relationship with my Taiwanese heritage: something that I hope to represent candidly in this screenplay.
